What Is Ipsy Glam Bag?

Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription box. There are 3 tiers of membership: Glam Bag, Glam Bag Plus and Glam Bag X.

The Glam Bag membership is a $13 a month subscription (plus tax and an additional $1.99 for handling). In this subscription, you get 5 deluxe size beauty samples worth up to $70 and sent to you in a cute themed bag. Each month, you get to choose one of the deluxe beauty samples that you will receive, and Ipsy will decide the remaining 4 based off of the initial beauty preference quiz you take. This is the most popular subscription option that Ipsy has to offer.

First Impressions

This seems like a good bag! Every item would be an item I would buy myself. The box contained an Age Repair Intensive Moisturizer, a BB+CC concealer, mascara, eyeshadow duo and a BB cream with SPF 30.

The note IPSY always includes in their boxes was about women’s empowerment for Women’s History Month. There was also a note introducing the Icon Box, which is the new quarterly subscription that Ipsy is collaborating with Glam Bag.

The Contents

The Bag

The white bag for March 2023 is designed by LA-based designer Joanne Wong. The color, fabric texture and trim accessories are the designer’s take on beauty and women power to kick off Women’s History Month. The face on the gold coin of the zipper is Aphrodite, who is the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty.

ESTATE COSMETICS – Babygirl Eyeshadow Duo

Value: $2.00

This eyeshadow duo has good color. It is very subtle and a more neutral, natural look. I am going to a lot of summer weddings this year, and I know that I am going to be using some of these shadows! A great item to travel with.

TARTE SUGAR RUSH – Volumizing Mascara

Value: $5.56

This mascara is perfect! I have very short eyelashes, so it is very difficult for me to find a mascara that makes them actually look like something. This added so much volume and length to my lashes! I didn’t find that this mascara clumped, and it lasts all day. It is actually pretty difficult to get it off at the end of the day.

The only downsides are that the applicator is pretty large, so it is difficult to get to your corner lashes.

YENSA BEAUTY – Concealer

Value: $4.83

I used to have a go-to concealer. Now I have a new one! This concealer is the best that I have ever tried. It goes on smooth, and is lightweight and not cakey at all. I have not had good luck with concealers, where they will show every tiny wrinkle on my skin. This one doesn’t do that at all. I am going to be repurchasing this once I’m done with this deluxe sample.

PURLISSE BEAUTY – Illuminating BB Cream

Value: $6.48

This was unfortunately a disappointment to me. I was looking for a new cc or bb cream since the one I usually use got discontinued. For me, this was not it. It went on way too thick for my liking, and was quite drying. The shimmery-ness of this product wasn’t my thing either. I was very close to buying a couple more as an add-on item, and I am kind of glad I didn’t. Perhaps would work for others, but not for me.

GROWN ALCHEMIST – Age-Repair Intensive Moisturizer

Value: $31.05

This was my choice item! I can’t resist a good moisturizer, so whenever I see a moisturizer as an option I will almost always choose it. At first, I didn’t really like this moisturizer. It seemed kind of heavy, and made my skin look very shiny. But it did do a good job at moisturizing my skin. I will definitely use the rest of the bottle, but at this price point, I don’t think I’m going to buy it again.

Verdict: Is it worth it?

Cost: $13 + tax and $1.99 handling = $15.82

Total value breakdown is: $49.92

This month, the total value breakdown is a LOT less than last month, and I think the reason why is because of Ipsy’s new partnership with Boxy Charm. Before, the messaging for Ipsy was “$50+ value”. Now, the website says that “you’ll receive five, personalized, deluxe beauty samples worth up to $70”. As you can see, my box would not have made the cut had it been in the previous messaging for the Ipsy Glam Bag. And it seems like users on Ipsy’s Instagram are pretty annoyed about it too.

So is this month really worth it? The price of the moisturizer alone was well over what I spent on the Ipsy Glam bag, but I am still kind of annoyed about the change to Ipsy these past months. Plus, the BB cream wasn’t really something that works all that well with my skin.

Overall, it is worth it if you want to try new products at a discounted rate. But the bags are decreasing in value, and I kind of hope that it won’t continue to decrease over the upcoming months.
